Assassin’s Creed Black Flag - Edward Kenway

Remember… Edward Kenway searching for Blackbeard in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and witnessing his final battle? Near Ocracoke, a British ship engages the pirates. Through cannon fire and smoke, Edward approaches his friend’s vessel. Blackbeard—Edward Thatch—is already fighting. Wounded but still on his feet, he swings his sword and refuses to surrender. Kenway fights his way toward him, desperate to reach him in time. Shouts and gunfire fill the deck. Blackbeard spots his friend and calls out: “In a world without gold, we might have been heroes!” They are his last words. Moments later, British soldiers strike him down. Edward watches the fall of a man who was both his friend and a seasoned pirate from whom he had learned so much. After the battle, Adéwalé asks what happened to Blackbeard. Edward answers simply: “He’s drinking damnation.” Blackbeard’s words stay with Edward. Both men sought wealth and freedom, but that life also brought the loss of friends. On that deck, Edward sees the cost of the pirate glory he once pursued.
