Attack on Titan - Eren and Mikasa
Remember… young Eren stepping toward Mikasa and wrapping his scarf around her neck? Her parents have been murdered. The house where she lived with her family can no longer offer her a home. She has survived her kidnappers, but survival leaves a question she cannot answer: where does she go now? Grisha discusses taking her in. Mikasa quietly says she is cold. Eren removes his scarf. He steps closer and wraps it around her neck, adjusting the fabric around her face. The gesture is slightly awkward, as a child’s might be. He cannot undo what happened or find words that will make it bearable. But he can help her feel warm. Then he tells her to come home with them. Mikasa looks at him, tears gathering above the scarf. After everything familiar has disappeared, someone is offering her somewhere to belong. Someone cares whether she is warm and where she will sleep tonight. That warmth stays attached to the scarf throughout her life. It holds the memory of Eren saying “home” and making room for her within that word. Their relationship will become complicated, but this first gesture remains: after losing everything, she was approached, cared for, and invited to come along.
