Attack on Titan - Scouting Legion

Remember… the gate opening as riders in green cloaks venture into Titan territory? The Wings of Freedom mark their backs, while behind them stands a city whose people doubt they will return. This is how we meet the Survey Corps. The story does not detail its founding day or first commander. It developed as a branch of humanity’s military within the Walls, tasked with exploring outside, studying Titans, and finding ways to reclaim territory. The Garrison defends the Walls; the Military Police maintains internal order. The Scouts enter the unknown. Every addition to their maps can cost lives. Expeditions return with wounded soldiers and belongings of the dead, while citizens question the sacrifice. Keith Shadis leads this struggle, but he is its twelfth commander, not its founder. After repeated losses, he hands command to Erwin Smith. Erwin employs a long-distance scouting formation: dispersed riders relay smoke signals, helping the main force avoid unnecessary encounters. Levi’s skill and Hange’s research support the same goal—making each expedition more effective. Their history spans generations, all pursuing one question: what lies beyond the Walls, and can humanity live freely there?
