Berserk - Griffith and Guts

Remember… Guts first meeting Griffith and discovering that his enormous sword cannot guarantee victory? Having defeated Bazuso, Guts leaves with his payment. Corkus and several members of the Band of the Hawk try to rob him, but he fights back fiercely. Casca intervenes, followed by Griffith. White hair, a calm gaze, effortless movements. Guts swings at him, but Griffith evades the attack and pierces his shoulder. Guts loses consciousness. When he wakes in their camp, Griffith asks him to join. Guts refuses to live under someone else’s orders. They settle it with a duel: victory means freedom; defeat means joining the band. Despite his wound, Guts attacks with everything he has. Griffith counters with speed and precision. Guts tries to gain the advantage at close quarters, but Griffith forces him down and locks his arm. He offers Guts a chance to surrender. Guts keeps resisting—Griffith dislocates his shoulder. Then he takes Guts by the face and tells him he now belongs to him. Their meeting breaks Guts’s isolation. Here is someone who has defeated him and offered him a place. Yet Griffith’s words already reveal the desire to possess him—a painful foundation for their relationship.
