Bleach - Unohana

Remember… Unohana loosening her hair in Muken’s darkness and facing Zaraki with her sword drawn? The gentle captain of Squad Four reveals Yachiru Unohana, the first Kenpachi. Shunsui has entrusted her with preparing Zaraki for the war. Their blades clash. Again and again, Unohana overwhelms him. His awareness fades, then suddenly returns: she heals his fatal wounds and resumes attacking. Each time, Zaraki fights more fiercely. As a child, he had finally found someone who made battle exhilarating. Afraid of killing Unohana and losing that experience forever, he unconsciously suppressed his strength. Now she forces him toward death repeatedly, breaking those restraints. She releases her Bankai, Minazuki. Blood-red liquid floods the darkness as their duel reaches its final exchange. Zaraki’s sword pierces her. He catches her, desperately begging her to stay alive. He wants their battle to continue. Unohana dies knowing that he has reclaimed the strength he buried. Her ruthlessness carries responsibility: she accepts the cost of preparing her successor for the battles ahead. As Zaraki holds her, another voice finally reaches him—the voice of his own sword.
