Charles Leclerc
Remember… when Leclerc lost part of his front wing on the opening lap of the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, then completed the race without replacing it? Through Shanghai’s opening corners, both Ferraris move ahead of Verstappen. At Turn 2, Leclerc bounces over the kerb and touches the rear of Hamilton’s car. His left front-wing endplate breaks away. The damage disrupts airflow and aerodynamic performance. Leclerc must adapt to the remaining grip while maintaining pace and managing his tyres. Ferrari keeps the damaged wing even during his scheduled pit stop. Remarkably, Leclerc still has enough speed for the team to swap its drivers, releasing him ahead. Hamilton later stops again; Leclerc completes a one-stop race and crosses the line fifth, ahead of his teammate. Then scrutineering overturns the result. After the fuel is drained and a replacement front wing fitted for weighing, his Ferrari weighs **799 kilograms**, one below the minimum. The missing endplate therefore does not explain the shortfall. Leclerc is disqualified. That is the bitter detail: he successfully adapted to the damage, but his result disappeared afterward. In Formula 1, reaching the chequered flag is only part of finishing—the car must also pass inspection.
