Decorative Lights - Naruto

Remember… Naruto tied to a wooden post during Kakashi’s bell test, watching Sasuke and Sakura eat? They spent the morning competing. Kakashi has two bells for three students, making one person’s failure seem necessary for the others to succeed. Each fights alone. None takes a bell. Now Naruto’s stomach growls. Caught trying to steal lunch, he has been tied up, and Kakashi has forbidden the others from feeding him. Sharing their food means failing. Kakashi leaves. Sasuke glances at Naruto and offers his lunch. His explanation is practical: a starving teammate will hold them back during the afternoon test. Still, helping Naruto puts his own future at risk. Sakura hesitates, then joins him. With Naruto’s hands bound, she brings the food to his mouth herself. That is when Kakashi returns. His furious entrance frightens them, but they stand by their decision. They have already chosen to help their teammate. Kakashi’s expression changes. They pass. The bells were forcing a choice: protect their individual chances or look after one another. For the first time, all three choose the same side. Before they can become capable ninja, they have to become people their teammates can depend on.
