Halo - Master Chief

Remember… when Master Chief reaches the broken end of a corridor and finds only space beyond it? The Forward Unto Dawn has been torn in half. The collapsing portal left its rear section stranded with Chief and Cortana aboard. Debris drifts outside. After the fighting, the silence feels unfamiliar. Chief moves deeper into the ship and finds the cryotubes. He connects Cortana’s chip to a terminal, and her blue hologram appears. She recalls what they have stopped: Truth, the Covenant, the Flood. It is finished. This time, Chief agrees. He switches off his helmet light and puts away his rifle—small gestures from someone we have almost always seen preparing for another battle. Cortana will transmit a distress beacon, but rescue could take years. Chief climbs into a cryotube. “I’ll miss you,” she says. “Wake me. When you need me.” Cortana smiles and nods. The capsule seals. His answer carries their history together. He entrusts his survival to her, while leaving her a promise: sleep does not mean goodbye. Outside, half a ship drifts through unknown space. Inside, the soldier can finally rest because someone he trusts is keeping watch.
