Hunter × Hunter - Killua Zoldyck

Remember… Rammot beating Killua while the real struggle takes place inside Killua’s head? Gon is away with Palm, temporarily unable to use Nen. Killua knows that fleeing could expose his friend to danger. Yet Illumi’s command keeps repeating: retreat whenever victory is uncertain. Every approaching blow makes that voice louder. Killua remembers his time with Gon and begins to cry. He desperately wants to protect his friend, but the urge to escape keeps overriding his resolve. Then he reaches into his forehead. With his own fingers, he extracts the needle Illumi planted there. What he had mistaken for instinct was his brother’s manipulation. Rammot’s next attack misses. Killua is already behind him, holding the tiny needle, his composure restored. Fear crosses Rammot’s face. A moment later, Killua tears off his head and returns to searching for Gon. Removing the needle does not grant Killua a new ability; it lets him use the strength he already possesses. His greatest victory here is reclaiming his choice. Fear may still exist, but Illumi can no longer decide whether he abandons his friend.
