King Von
Remember… King Von’s “Crazy Story,” where the storytelling makes you feel as though you are watching events unfold? His real name was Dayvon Bennett, and he grew up in the South Side Chicago housing complex known as O’Block. That environment repeatedly appeared in his music: its relationships, dangers, and memories became the foundation of his stories. Even his debut album’s title, Welcome to O’Block, invites listeners into that world. Von’s distinctive strength was narrative storytelling. He brought characters to life through small details, built tension through dialogue, and guided events toward unexpected endings. He said that reading novels while incarcerated helped develop his writing. Listening to his songs can feel like following a short crime story, complete with individual scenes and sudden plot twists. “Crazy Story” became his breakthrough track, eventually inspiring several sequels. Lil Durk and his Only the Family label also played an important role in developing his career, helping him reach a wider audience. Throughout that rise, Von’s defining quality remained his ability to place listeners in the middle of a story from its opening lines.
