Luffy - Setting Sail for the First Time - 3D panel

Remember… when Luffy sets sail in a tiny boat, wearing the straw hat Shanks entrusted to him? The shore recedes. He has no crew and no great ship. Ahead lies the sea he has spent years dreaming about. Now his boat cuts through it, leaving his village behind. Then an enormous sea monster rises from the water—the same creature Shanks saved him from as a child, losing an arm in the process. It opens its jaws and advances towards the little boat. Luffy stands alone. Shanks is no longer beside him, but he makes no attempt to flee. Years of training have prepared him. He draws his arm back. His rubber limb stretches, then flies forward. The punch strikes the monster and clears his path. Still aboard his boat, Luffy looks towards the open sea and thinks about his future companions. He needs a crew, a ship, and a route to the Grand Line. He does not know their names yet, or where he will meet them. His straw hat rests firmly on his head. The boat carries him onwards as he declares that he will become King of the Pirates.
