Maki Zenin - The Zenin Clan Massacre 3D panel

Remember… when Mai Zenin uses the last of her strength to save Maki? Both sisters are badly wounded after confronting their father. Ogi has thrown them into a pit filled with curses, leaving them to die. Maki lies unconscious. Beside her, Mai knows that saving her sister will cost her life. Then we see a beach. The sisters speak beside the sea, seemingly far from the horror surrounding their bodies. Mai explains why they could never develop independently: jujutsu treats identical twins as a single being. Their abilities are bound together. Mai uses her Construction technique one final time. She creates a sword, sacrificing her life and taking the remaining cursed energy that prevented Maki’s body from reaching its full physical potential. Before leaving, she asks her sister to destroy everything. Maki tries to stop her, but Mai moves away. The distance between them grows. Their childhood promise to stay together cannot hold her there. Maki awakens. Mai lies motionless beside her. The sword remains. Maki touches her sister, waiting for a response that never comes. Around them, the curses are still waiting. She takes the blade and rises.
