Naruto - Neji Hyuga

Remember… during the Fourth Great Ninja War, when the Ten-Tails sends wooden spikes tearing across the battlefield toward Naruto? Naruto is exhausted. Hinata steps in front of him, spreading her arms to shield him with her body. Just before the spikes reach them, Neji throws himself into their path. They pierce his body, and he falls into Naruto’s arms. Naruto calls for a medic, but Neji knows it is too late. When Naruto asks why he sacrificed himself, Neji reminds him that Hinata was willing to die for him. His life now carries other people’s hopes, too. Once, Neji had insisted that birth determined everything. The mark on his forehead meant serving the Hyuga’s main family. Here, he makes his own choice. As his strength fades, he thinks of his father, Hizashi. He finally understands the freedom his father felt in choosing to protect someone he loved. Hinata cries beside them. Neji closes his eyes, and the mark disappears from his forehead. The boy who once saw himself as a caged bird makes his final decision freely.
