One Piece - Portgas D. Ace

Remember… Ace finally being free, only to turn back because of Akainu’s words? They are escaping Marineford. Luffy has crossed a battlefield to reach his brother’s chains. Now they are together, and survival seems possible. Then Akainu insults Whitebeard, calling him a failure who never became Pirate King. Ace stops. Whitebeard is the man who welcomed him into a family and called him his son. Despite his comrades’ pleas, Ace turns and attacks. Fire meets magma, and Akainu’s power breaks through. Nearby, Luffy’s exhausted body falters. He reaches for Ace’s fallen Vivre Card as Akainu advances. Ace steps between them. The magma fist strikes him. The brother Luffy fought to rescue becomes his final shield. Luffy catches him and calls for help. Ace knows little time remains. He apologizes for leaving his younger brother behind. Throughout his life, he wondered whether he should have been born. Now his answer lies in the people who risked their lives for him. He leans close and leaves Luffy a message for everyone: thank you for loving him. The last fragment of his Vivre Card burns away. Ace dies smiling, while Luffy holds the brother he cannot yet comprehend losing.
