Resident Evil 4 REMAKE - Leon and Ashely

Remember… Ashley asking Leon to become her personal bodyguard at the end of the Resident Evil 4 remake? The island falls behind them. They have escaped the collapsing passage and are speeding across open water on a jet ski. For once, no locked door or armed pursuer waits ahead. They can finally talk about going home. Ashley suggests speaking to her father and having Leon assigned to her protection. There is playfulness in the offer, alongside an understandable wish to keep someone she trusts in her life after the mission ends. Leon declines, telling her she has already proved she can look after herself. Their journey gives that answer weight. Ashley kept going despite her fear. She helped him through danger and acted when his survival depended on her. Leon noticed. His refusal becomes an acknowledgment of everything she accomplished. He can imagine her future extending beyond the frightened young woman he first found. Their conversation stays light against the sound of the sea. Ashley still trusts Leon, but now receives something else from him: recognition of her own strength. He began the mission determined to bring her home alive. He leaves her with another reason to trust herself.
