Remember… when Wolf fights through Hirata Estate’s burning temple to rescue Kuro, only to be stabbed from behind? It happens three years before the main story. The estate is burning, its courtyards overrun by attackers. Among the ruins, Wolf finds Owl—the man who raised and trained him—apparently dying. Owl gives him the temple key and sends him after Kuro. Below the audience chamber waits Lady Butterfly, another former teacher. Their battle unfolds among flames and illusions. Every familiar technique has become a threat. Wolf defeats her. For a moment, the way to Kuro seems clear. Then a sword pierces his back. The first memory conceals the attacker’s identity. Later, the betrayal becomes clear: it was Owl. His ambitions outweighed his adopted son’s loyalty and life. Wolf collapses. Kuro approaches and shares the Dragon’s Heritage with him, granting him the power to return from death. That night, Kuro saves his protector. Later, he asks that same protector to help sever immortality, having witnessed the suffering people inflict to possess it. Owl wants that power for himself. Kuro wants freedom from it. Between those choices, Wolf must discover what protecting his lord truly requires.
