The Last Of Us - Joel and Ellie playing guitar 3D panel

Remember… Joel bringing Ellie a guitar and playing for her for the first time? They are in Jackson, after the journey that changed them both. Ellie is in her room when Joel arrives. He starts awkwardly, trying to fulfill an old promise: he said he would teach her to play. He settles the guitar on his knee. A man who rarely hesitates in danger suddenly seems nervous about playing a few chords. His fingers find the strings, and he begins Pearl Jam’s “Future Days.” Ellie listens quietly. His voice is low and rough. The song speaks of losing someone precious and losing yourself with them. In this small room, it becomes a way for Joel to express feelings he struggles to say aloud. When he finishes, Ellie gently teases him. Joel accepts her modest review and hands her the guitar. Surprised, she asks whether it is really hers. They arrange their first lesson for tomorrow. The teaching has yet to begin, but that promise matters. Tomorrow offers time together, chords to practice and mistakes to laugh about. In a world of loss, the guitar gives them something to share—and something Ellie can carry forward.
