Vinland saga - Thorfinn’s Story 3D panel

Remember… the dead clinging to Thorfinn in his nightmare, dragging him into an abyss? At first, he sees Thors, reminding him that he has no enemies. Then the peace breaks. A bloodied knife appears in Thorfinn’s hand, and the people he killed reach up from below. Their hands wrap around his legs and pull him down. Below, the fighting never stops. Warriors cut each other down, fall and continue killing. Victory offers no escape; death brings no rest. Among them stands Askeladd, showing Thorfinn the world of warriors—the destination of the path he followed for years. Then his victims surround him. Some faces are unfamiliar: people he killed without remembering them. During battle, they were obstacles. Now he confronts the lives he ended. He falls to his knees and begs forgiveness, but cannot bring them back. Askeladd urges him to climb. The dead still hang from his body. Thorfinn must carry their weight upward, fingers gripping the rock as he struggles toward the surface. He wakes crying and vows never to hurt anyone again. The nightmare gives him a different battle: facing what he has done, carrying that responsibility and learning to live without creating more victims.
