XXXTENTACION

Remember… how XXXTentacion’s music could shift from harsh screaming to a quiet, melancholy melody? His real name was Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy. He began his career on SoundCloud, a platform where young musicians could share recordings directly with listeners. Early on, he also co-founded the Members Only collective with Ski Mask the Slump God, building a creative circle around his developing music. His sound was difficult to confine to one genre. He blended rap with elements of emo, punk, R&B, and metal. Some tracks relied on distorted bass and aggressive vocals, while others featured acoustic textures and almost whispered melodies. These contrasting approaches gave different forms to anger, loneliness, and vulnerability. One of his best-known songs, “SAD!,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 after his death. He became the first solo artist since The Notorious B.I.G. to top the chart posthumously in a lead role. That achievement carried a particularly sorrowful context: one of the biggest milestones of his career arrived when he was no longer alive to witness it.
